Hello, Portlanders. Elephant Lands at the Oregon Zoo is now officially open to the public. The new area for the elephants is about four times the size of their former habitat. Elephant Lands now accounts for almost 10% of the zoo’s 64-acre footprint. A cool feature Portlanders will love is the new bridge that overlooks the six-acre Elephant Lands. The panoramic view is awesome.
Now that you’ve done your Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, it’s time to check out the ZooLights at the Oregon Zoo. There are over a million lights (I counted them all) and you’ll see the zoo in a light. We went earlier in the week. It was very cold, but it was dry and we had a fun time. It’s become an annual tradition for us. ZooLights runs through January 3, 2016. ZooLights hours are 5 pm to 9 pm.

Hello Portlanders! I have a contest on my Portland blog to see Suffragette for free. As you can guess by the title, the film is about a group of women who drove the movement for the right to vote. We take it for granted today, but there was a time when women were not allowed to vote. Suffragette stars Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan and Helena Bonham Carter. The free screening for Suffragette is Monday, November 2nd at Regal Bridgeport at 7 pm. I’m giving away 15 early admit passes to see the screening. Each VIP pass is good for two guests. If you are interested in seeing Suffragette (Focus Features), leave a comment below with your first and last name. The deadline to enter is Thursday, October 29th. The winners will be randomly selected.
Our family went to the Maize at the Pumpkin Patch a couple of days ago. We had a fabulous time. And we were there a lot longer than planned. We left home at 9:30 in the morning and didn’t make it back until 2:30 pm. Wow, that is a lot of time to spend at a maze and pumpkin patch. Halloween is about three weeks away, so there’s still time for you take your little ones to the fun Maize at the Pumpkin Patch (save $2 with this coupon). And of course, pick up some pumpkins while you are there. You’ll get your money’s worth.

According to the local new, it’s going to be sunny on Sunday, which will be the last Sunday Parkways of the year. At this weekend’s event, Disney on Ice will be hosting a Frozen’s Biggest Fan karaoke booth — you can win tickets to see the upcoming show in Portland (October 22–26, 2015). At the booth, kids can sing karaoke songs from Frozen. In addition, children will be able to add a Frozen crown to their bicycle helmet while riding around the Sunday Parkways route. BTW, the Disney on Ice presents Frozen booth (11am – 4pm) will be at Tilikum Crossing. I have not walked across it yet, but I love our new bridge. It’s so beautiful.
My three youngest kids and I went to the see the circus on Sunday. It was the first time we’ve been to the circus. We loved it and were very entertained. We can’t wait until Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey come back to Portland. Sunday was the last day for the Built To Amaze tour in Portland. I think their next stop is Seattle.
