President Barack Obama will visit Intel’s Ronler Acres campus in Hillsboro on Friday. While at Intel, he will tour Intel’s semiconductor manufacturing plant with Intel CEO Paul Otellini. President Obama will also learn about Intel’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education programs and Intel’s efforts to better prepare the next generation to compete for high-tech jobs. Sorry, the event is closed to the general public. However, you can enjoy the traffic delays on I-84 and the Sunset Highway. Here is the President’s most likely route:
President Obama’s Portland Itinerary
- President Obama will arrive in Air Force One around 10am at the Portland Air National Guard Base
- The President will travel to Intel’s Ronler Acres campus (close to NW Cornelius Pass and NE Cornell Rd in Hillsboro)
- Obama will tour Intel and give a speech on education
- President Obama will return to PDX around 1pm
Based on past presidential visits, Portlanders can expect the freeways to be closed while the President is in transit to and from Intel. So plan your day accordingly on Friday and avoid I-84 and the Sunset Highway if you can.
Note: there is the possibility that Obama will travel by helicopter instead of motorcade. The decision is top secret and will also depend on the weather.
