My kids and I loved the first Hotel Transylvania (Sony Pictures Animation). We can’t wait to see the sequel, which will begin haunting theaters on September 25th. But for those of you who can’t wait until next week, you’re in luck. There’s an early screening of Hotel Transylvania this Saturday at Regal Lloyd Center (September 19th, 10am). If you want to go to the free screening, download your movie passes now. It’s first come, first serve.
It’s been raining since Friday (started right after work), so my plans to build a roof over my roof this weekend has been delayed. Summer doesn’t officially end for another 2+ weeks, but the cool and wet weather sure feels like Fall. In fact, while I’ve been couped up inside, I’ve been thinking about the next holiday: Halloween. In my opinion, it’s the best holiday of the year. I can’t wait for Halloween and I can’t wait to visit The Maize at The Pumpkin Patch. We went last year and had a fun time. BTW, you can save $2 on admission with this online coupon.

This weekend Sunday Parkways will take place in southeast Portland. For those of you who don’t know, Sunday Parkways is a series of free events that promote healthy active living. As part of the event, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey will have a booth (#7 – near SE Cesar Chavez Ave). They will offer a free a Build-a-Bike seminar for kids. Children will get their own safety vest and learn how to put a bike together. For the kids that participate, their family will receive a discount code for tickets to the show. In addition, if you show-up to Sunday Parkways in circus gear, you can win a family four-pack of event tickets to Ringling Bros. Presents Built to Amaze! (Moda Center September 17–20). The Sunday Parkways event will take place this Sunday (August 23rd). See map below for route.
It’s Fleet Week and the ships are coming to the Portland Rose Festival this weekend. Some of the tours start as early as 9 am Thursday, but you’ll have to wait until 9:30 am Friday if you want to see the big Navy ships. You’ll want to get there early because the lines are really long. I took the kids last year and we waited in line for about four hours. Most of the ships leave Monday morning, so expect delays. Note: the photos on this page were taken last year.
If you’re looking for a bike part, but don’t want to splurge for a new part, then you should check out Citybikes. For the past two summers, I have been having intermittent problems shifting gears. The problem usually happens when I hit a hill and I want to shift to lower gear. Then I’m stuck in high gear and swearing all the way up the hill. I finally took my bike to Bike Gallery to have them take a look at it. The bike tech looked at it and told me both of my shifters need to be replaced. Unfortunately, I have an older bike and they don’t make shifters for my bike anymore. The tech then directed me to eBay and also told me I might be able to find used shifters at Citybikes. I went to Citybikes, but didn’t find any integrated 2×7 shifters for my bike. However, I still think Citybikes is a good place to look for used bike parts.
If you’ve been following me on Twitter, then you know I’ve been busy shopping in a Chevy Equinox loaner for the big Doernbecher raffle. I’ve put together a grill package consisting of a fabulous Traeger Lil Tex Pro Grill and Smoker (sells for $799), $200 in delicious steaks from The Meating Place, a $100 Parr Lumber gift card (for grill accessories and meat rubs), and a great grill recipes book from Powell’s Books. The Chevy Shop Social: Portland fundraiser will take place this Thursday (May 21st) in Pioneer Square on May 21st (starts 6 pm). Raffle tickets are only $2 each (12 tickets for $10, 15 tickets for $20). That means for as little as $2, you can enter to win my grill package that is worth over $1100. Sweet deal, right? As I mentioned before, this is a great cause because raffle proceeds will benefit the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation.
