Tanasbourne Target to Carry Fresh Groceries

A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of large storage containers magically appeared on the parking lot of the Tanasbourne Target (NW 181st and Evergreen Parkway). My inquiring mind wanted to know what was going on so I launched an investigation. And thanks to my great detective skills (ok, the sign below was helpful), I’ve discovered that our Target is being remodeled for fresh groceries.

As you can see from the sign above, Tanasbourne Target will be carrying an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. Plus other grocery items like milk and ice cream. Target calls these redesigned stores, Target PFresh stores. They have been testing the concept for a couple of years now. According to Target, the expanded food layout features a 50% to 200% increase in food over what existed prior to the remodels.

Target PFresh store

I’m not sure how well the PFresh concept will work out at Tanasbourne Target. In the photo above, the PFresh concept looks kinda a like a convenience store. Maybe that’s the segment Target is aiming for because it would be very convenient for many dads and moms. I assume they will not compete on price. Tanasbourne Target already carries some grocery items, but their prices are generally higher compared to Costco, Winco, and the weekly FoodDay specials at various grocery stores. They certainly won’t be competing on selection because Target’s current selection is very limited compared to regular grocery stores. And how in the world is PFresh going to compete against Fred Meyer, the king of one-stop shopping in the Portland area?
