The Maize at The Pumpkin Patch

Our family went to the Maize at the Pumpkin Patch a couple of days ago. We had a fabulous time. And we were there a lot longer than planned. We left home at 9:30 in the morning and didn’t make it back until 2:30 pm. Wow, that is a lot of time to spend at a maze and pumpkin patch. Halloween is about three weeks away, so there’s still time for you take your little ones to the fun Maize at the Pumpkin Patch (save $2 with this coupon). And of course, pick up some pumpkins while you are there. You’ll get your money’s worth.

The Maize at The Pumpkin Patch is located on Sauvie Island (16511 NW Gillihan Road). It only took us about 20 minutes to drive there and the drive was somewhat scenic for us. The first thing we did when we got there was to take the two youngest kids on the cow train ride. The train takes kids on a tour around the farm. Parents can ride along too, but it costs $3 a person.

The next thing we did was go on a free hay ride to the pumpkin patch. We could’ve selected one of the harvested pumpkins near the entrance of the farm, but the kids wanted to pick from the pumpkin patch. They’re kinda of crazy because they walked all the way to end of the patch before they picked out their pumpkins. BTW, you’ll get a great deal on pumpkins there. It’s only a dollar if the pumpkin is five pounds are less, $3 for 6 to 15 pounds, $5 for 16 to 25 pounds, and $7 for 26+ pounds. They also have some special pumpkins you can purchase. For instance, I bought a light greenish-blue pumpkin (Jarrahdale) for $8. I think it’s going to make a great Frankenstein.

Our next stop was the corn maze. You can try to find your way out on your own, or use their clues by picking up a clue card before you enter the maze. When you reach one of the ten markers in the maze, you answer the question on your card. Your answer will tell you what direction you should go next. We used the clues and the maze was a breeze until marker nine. Compared to the other markers, it took us a long time to find marker nine. After walking around in circle a billion times, we eventually found marker nine and the way out. Admission to the maze is free for kids five and under, $5 for children 6 to 12, and $7 for 13+, and $5 for seniors.

On the way out, we also checked out the barn animals, farmer market and food booths. BTW, the fresh kettle corn was a big hit with the kids.
