Now that you’ve done your Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, it’s time to check out the ZooLights at the Oregon Zoo. There are over a million lights (I counted them all) and you’ll see the zoo in a light. We went earlier in the week. It was very cold, but it was dry and we had a fun time. It’s become an annual tradition for us. ZooLights runs through January 3, 2016. ZooLights hours are 5 pm to 9 pm.
The Harlem Globetrotters are coming to Portland and Eugene early next year. I’m excited and plan on taking the kids. We’ve never seen the Globetrotters before, but we’ve heard they are amazing and are very entertaining. The Globetrotters will be in Eugene on February 20th and in Portland on February 21st. Tickets are on sale now (holiday gift idea: Globetrotters tickets are wonderful stocking stuffers). For a limited time, you can save $7 off select tickets to any Harlem Globetrotter game. ZooLights is finally open at the Oregon Zoo. From now through January 4th, Portlanders can check out the splendid light show. We went last weekend and had a wonderful time. It was very cold, but we still fun. This year, the train is even back. Because of the new construction at the zoo, the train route is different from previous years. But it’s still a great way to see the lights at the Oregon Zoo. BTW, we also bought some fudge from their store. My family loves their fudge!
Saturday (October 4th) is Community Free Day at the Oregon Zoo. That means free admission for everyone! Zoo hours are 9 am to 4 pm.
The family and I went to the Sunset at the Zoo event last week. For those of you who don’t know, Sunset at the Zoo is a series of events that feature musicians and extra activities. On those days, the Oregon Zoo also stays open an extra couple of hours. The kids and I had a fun time. There was music by the Pete Krebs Trio, Copper and Coal, and Trashcan Joe. And my kids enjoyed the children activities. My kids were also well-behaved for a change. They didn’t even complained when we made them eat cotton candy and ice cream. Anyways, Sunset at the Zoo is a fun event for both kids and parents. Unfornuately, Sunset at the Zoo is over and you’ll have to wait until next summer to attend one.
The 2014 Street of Dreams will end its run next weekend (August 24th) in Happy Valley, Oregon. This year’s Street of Dreams features five homes. Home prices range from $850,000 to $1.5 million. Each home is unique, from traditional, to craftsman, to Mediterranean and Asian inspired. Continue reading to see the five homes in this year’s Street of Dreams.
I have good news for those of you who have been thinking about going to the Oregon Zoo. From now until the end of September, the Oregon Zoo is running a buy-one-get-one ticket free promotion. The BOGO admission is only valid on weekdays after 2 pm when zoo visitors ask for the “Zoo After 2” summer discount at the gate. This promotion is in addition to their monthly $4 second Tuesday promotion.
Fourth of July lands on Friday this year. Isn’t that sweet? Now we can stay up for the fireworks and not have to get up early the next morning to go to work. If you’re planning on watching the fireworks shows in the metro area, check out my list: Portland Oregon Fireworks 2014 (includes nearby cities).
Hey Portlanders! I just want to post a quick note about the Mount Hood Railroad. For the very first time, Jim Henson’s Dinosaur Train is coming to the Mount Hood Railroad in Hood River, Oregon. Children will get to meet Buddy, the loveable and curious T-Rex, and visit the Nature Tracker’s Adventure Park. There, kids will participate in four challenges designed to earn them stamps on their Game Card to earn a Nature Trackers Membership Card. Challenges include digging for fossils, identifying dinosaur footprints, excavating and a dino-themed craft area. Children (and parents too) will enjoy live entertainment, food and face painting to celebrate their accomplishment. Sounds awesome, right?
You know the saying, “all good things must come to an end.” I’m not sure if that saying is always true, but it is true for Cirque Du Soleil TOTEM. This is the last week the show will be performing in Portland. After May 4th (Sunday), the show will head to Vancouver, BC in Canada. Then they head overseas to Auckland, New Zealand. My youngest daughter and I went to see Totem earlier in the month. The show was spectacular. We had a great time.
